Sand Truck Crash Slows 405 Freeway Drive in San Fernando Valley

The truck appeared to have rear-ended a car in the North Hills area

Lanes were closed on a San Fernando Valley freeway after a crash Monday morning involving a truck that spilled its 40-ton load of sand.

The crash was reported early Monday on the southbound 405 Freeway in North Hills. Two lanes were blocked for the crash investigation and cleanup.

The truck appeared to have rear-ended the Honda, according to the California Highway Patrol. A preliminary investigation indicated the Honda driver struck an object in the road and swerved into the semitrailer truck's lane.

The driver of the Honda was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The big rig ended up on its side, spilling sand onto the shoulder of the road.  Lanes remained closed until about 10 a.m.
