A suspected backyard drug lab was discovered after firefighters responded to calls of a fire in Compton early Tuesday morning.
Firefighters arrived at 1117 W. 137th Street just after 3:15 a.m. and discovered traces of what was believed to be the drug PCP.
A hazardous materials team responded to the scene and is working to identify the substance that was discovered at the home.
Police found melted tools, gas and other materials in the remains of the backyard of the house.
A strong odor streth several blocks immediately after the fire, which HazMat crews said could be toxic, prompting the neighborhood closure until the materials could be contained.
Authorities say two people were outside the home upon discovery of the fire. Both fled the scene in a minivan and one person seen leaving the location was arrested. He was severely burned and is currently in the hospital, but has been placed under arrest.
