Balcony-to-Balcony Standoff After Inglewood Hotel Fire

The man, arrested on suspicion of arson, surrendered after the standoff on West Century Boulevard

A man accused of setting a fire in an Inglewood hotel room jumped from balcony to balcony late Friday before surrendering to police.

Inglewood police responded at about 10 p.m. to a report of loud noises from a ninth-floor room at the Motel 6 in the 5100 block of West Century Boulevard. At some point, the man started a fire in the room and climbed outside of the building.

He jumped from balcony to balcony as crews extinguished the fire and officers attempted to speak with the man. The man surrendered at about midnight after he climbed down a ladder provided by police.

He was arrested on suspicion of arson.

The fire was contained to one room. No injuries were reported, but guests were evacuated.
