Woman Killed, Daughter Injured When Car Crashes Into Their South LA Apartment

A witness says he saw a car speeding and heard the sound of screeching tires before the deadly crash

A woman was killed and her 4-year-old daughter was injured early Wednesday when a driver crashed into the side of their South Los Angeles area apartment.

The two occupants of the Lincoln sedan also were injured when it struck a corner of the building in the 8700 block of South Main Street in the Broadway-Manchester area. It appears the wall of the building was dislodged into a bedroom where the woman and child were sleeping.

Relatives identified the woman as 43-year-old Nicole Marks, a mother of four.

"She was asleep and the car hit her building and killed her," said resident Cherry Ware.

Another witness who lives nearby was sitting in his car at the time of the crash. He said the car was traveling at high speed before the deadly crash.

A South LA family is grieving tonight after a mother was killed while sleeping next to her child. Cellphone video captured the chaos after a car slammed into the family’s apartment building.

He said devastated family members came out of the building as the car caught fire, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
