Driver Sought After Man Struck, Killed in Whittier Hit-and-Run Crash

A hit-and-run driver was being sought after fatally striking a man crossing the street in Whittier Saturday night, officials said.

The victim was identified as Victor Gallegos, 58, of Whittier.

Family members left behind flowers and candles at the scene where Gallegos, a grandfather to 10, was left in the road after a hit-and-run crash.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Pickering Avenue and Hadley Street, according to the Whittier Police Department. 

An older model white Toyota pickup truck traveling northbound on Pickering Avenue struck and killed Gallegos as he crossed the road.

The truck fled the scene, police said. The vehicle had front-end damage due to the collision.

The pickup truck believed to be involved in the crash was located later Sunday at 2200 Block of Ruiz Place in Hacienda Heights, according to Whittier police.

The truck had front-end damage, and was found unoccupied.

Writing on the back end reads, "Affordable Showers, Closet Doors, Windows, Mirrors."
