If a rabbit sees its shadow, it's probably not living in this part of Mission Viejo.
Residents can use firearms to shoot rabbits within the association's gated area, according to the Orange County Register.
The exception to the Casta del Sol Homeowners Association was first approved in 2005 because of overpopulation. City officials just re-approved it for another 24 months.
"A person employed by the association of common interest development may use air-powered pellet projectiles to kill rabbits within 150 yards of an occupied residence without the owner's permission," the variances states, according to the Orange County Register.
City staff research shows that nobody has filed personal or property damage claims in connection with the shooting of rabbits.
