Ex-Boyfriend Arrested in Young Mother's Murder in Winnetka

New information on the murder of a young mother, who was found stabbed to death in Winnetka, in the backseat of her car, about three blocks from her home.   Police now have a suspect in custody. Her ex-boyfriend, 30-year-old Fredy Hernandez of East Los Angeles. He is being held in lieu of $1 million dollars bail. No word yet on when he will be arraigned.

Police towed the car away last night after a day-long investigation. Detectives say the woman's brother found her body earlier in the day. The victim has been identified as 24-year old Doris Salgaro, mother of a six-year-old boy.    Family members reported her missing after she never returned from a Christmas party Saturday.   Investigators say Hernandez had been at the same party.

``The motive for this murder appears to be that Miss Salguero refused to reconcile with the suspect,'' said LAPD Capt. John Egan.

He said the murder weapon had not been located, and may have beendiscarded alongside a freeway.  A trust fund was established at First Commerce Bank of Encino to benefit the family.
