Firefighters tackled an early Monday morning blaze that started in the attic of BeauRivage Restaurant in Malibu.
The fire was reported at 6:10 a.m. and knocked down at approximately 7:48 a.m., said Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Brian Riley. He added that law enforcement officers shut down lanes at 6:22 a.m. at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Corral Canyon Road -- where the restaurant was located.
All lanes had been reopened by roughly 11:30 a.m., said Mike Treinen, a Malibu sheriff's deputy.
Riley said the fire was initially labeled a "first alarm," which called for roughly 20 firefighters to the scene, before being upgraded to a "second alarm," which dispatched approximately 55 firefighters. The fire was then downgraded again back to a first alarm, Riley said.
"We can add additional units if we feel it's needed, and obviously if they're not needed, we can try to cancel ASAP and get those units back to those home stations," Riley said. "Sometimes, it's precautionary. We'd rather have more than enough."
Though the active fire had been subdued by 7:48 a.m., Riley said firefighters continued to "overhaul" the premises and search for any extensions of the fire.
Riley said there are no damage estimates yet and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
