Teen Boys Found Safe After Exploring Storm Drain System

Firefighters searched a storm drain for two boys reported missing in an Oak Park storm drain

Two boys were found in a storm drain after witnesses heard voices coming from under a street in a Ventura County neighborhood, officials said.

Firefighters in Oak Park had been trying to locate two boys who apparently walked into a storm drain Monday afternoon near a Vons store and hadn't been seen since. Crews were called out to Kanan Road and Tamarind Street after a worker heard voices coming from under the street, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

"They were yelling from a manhole cover," said witness Glenn Tarbutton. "We told them there was a massive lookout for them and they needed to stay there and help was on the way."

Emergency crews responded to remove the storm drain cover on the residential street. The boys said they wanted to see where the strain drain system ended.

"Stupid," one said as he sat on a curb after the rescue.

No injuries were reported.
