The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a measure Tuesday that prohibits vehicles with posted "For Sale" signs to be parked on streets in unincorporated areas of the city.
An influx in undocumented, unofficial businesses operating used car lots on city streets prompted the action by local leaders.
"The streets have been taken over by illegal businesses," said Cheryl Burnett, press deputy for Supervisor Don Knabe. "Not only is it a safety hazard, it is an eyesore."
The motion was proposed by Supervisors Gloria Molina and Don Knabe. Both supervisors' offices were unavailable for comment.
This new ordinance does not prohibit residents from advertising vehicles for sale in their private driveways, but it does give the city authority to impound vehicles parked on public streets for commercial purposes.
