Hollywood Time Capsule to Be Buried for 50 Years

The time capsule will be opened in 2060 on the Walk of Fame's 100th anniversary.

A time capsule with items related to the Hollywood Walk of Fame will be going back to the future Thursday. As part of the area's 50th anniversary, one was buried at the corner of Hollywood and Highland Ave.

The capsule included items connected with each of the five Walk of Fame categories -- motion pictures, television, recording, radio and live theater.

DVDs of the Oscar telecasts from 1960 and 2010 will represent the motion picture category; a program, invitation and ticket from the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards will represent the television category; a replica Capitol records tower and letter will represent the recording category; a flash drive with shows from the past and present from Pioneer Broadcasters and a show from Jim Ladd of KLOS-FM (95.5) will represent the radio category; and playbills from the productions of "Wicked" and "The Lion King" presented at the Pantages Theatre will represent the live theater category.

The time capsule will also include messages from elected officials, a script from "Casablanca," and an autographed picture of Joanne Woodward, who received the first Walk of Fame star.

Bob Barker took part in today's ceremony, and he included a letter in the time capsule.

"It's signed Bob Barker, October 28th, 2010, and the note says, `Have your pets spayed or neutered,"' the noted animal-rights activist said with a smile.

The time capsule will be opened in 2060 on the Walk of Fame's 100th anniversary.
