Los Angeles Considers Stricter Ban on Public Smoking

Some Los Angeles city officials are pushing for a new, wider smoking ban. The new rules would make it illegal to light up on restaurant patios or within 10 feet of any outdoor business that serves food and drinks.

Bars with outdoor areas would be exempt.

The proposed new law is being considered by a committe on Thursday, but if the full City Council approves it, the ban could be in place this summer.

Some other local municipalities, such as Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, already have similar laws on the books.
