Search Ends Near PCH in Malibu After Report of Kidnapping, Sex Assault

A woman inside the vehicle with a man told deputies she was kidnapped and assaulted in Huntington Park

Deputies searched near Pacific Coast Highway and Corral Canyon Road (map) Monday morning after a woman reported she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted in Huntington Park by a man who then forced her into a vehicle and drove to Malibu.

Deputies responded to the area at about 2 a.m. Monday after the discovery of a Nissan Sentra that was reported stolen in the Huntington Park area. It was not immediately clear when the theft occurred.

The man and woman were in the car, parked on the shoulder of PCH. When a deputy attempted to handcuff the man, he ran north toward Corral Canyon Road.

"He immediately bolted, knocking the deputy down," said Steve Whitmore, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

A canine unit was at the location early Monday. Deputies blocked part of PCH during the search. The roadblock was removed at about 9 a.m.

The search ended at about 10 a.m. Solstice Canyon (map), a popular hiking area, also reopened at about 11 a.m.

The barefoot man -- identified as 32-year-old Jaci Armando Baragan -- might be wearing black tank-top and jeans. Baragan is 5-feet-8 inches tall and weighs about 145 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, according to the sheriff's department.

He also might have "a rather unique ornament on his right wrist -- a handcuff," said Whitmore.

Deputies warned residents to lock doors and avoid hitch-hikers.

"We don't know if he's armed, but he is considered dangerous," said Whitmore.

Deputies told NBC4 the man is on parole for car theft. Drug paraphernalia and rounds for a pistol were found in the vehicle, according to deputies.
