A central California man is in jail for allegedly stomping to death three kittens.
David Pierce was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail for investigation of felony animal cruelty after allegedly killing the kittens in a Santa Maria grocery store parking lot Monday afternoon.
A witness told sheriff's investigators Pierce dropped three kittens out of a plastic bag and begin to stomp them in the parking lot at Spencer's Fresh Markets.
The witness says he tried to intervene, but Pierce pushed him away.
Santa Barbara Sheriff's Dept. Lt. Butch Arnoldi said he did not know what prompted the attack on the kittens.
“There’s a lot of people with a lot of problems, ... but God only knows what set this man off,” Arnoldi told the Santa Maria times. “But you don’t take it off on poor, little animals.”
