The Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student from Santa Monica who had been missing earlier in the week and was the subject of an intense search was found dead today, a victim of suicide, according to authorities. It was not released how he died.
Charles Tamae, a landscape architecture major at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, was last seen Monday. Roommate Harrison Luce said Tamae missed a major presentation Thursday causing concern among faculty and students. Tamae lived off campus and traveled to school using a black beach cruiser. The bike was discovered near his body.
The search for Tamae included students fanning out Thursday night to pass leaflets to residents in the area.
One Cal Poly student, Brett Zipse said, "I was wondering if it had been a possible suicide just because of the stress of finals. It does take a toll on a lot of the students and it's a very difficult school here and just mentally it's very taxing."
