Man Accused of Sending Inappropriate Texts to Underage Girl

A 15-year-old girl was handing out fliers for a babysitting business when she began receiving inappropriate texts

A 23-year-old man faces charges connected to sending sexually explicit texts to a 15-year-old girl through a phone number on a flier the girl handed out offering baby and animal sitting services, police said Monday.

John Luis Colberg was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of sending sexually explicit text messages to a 15-year-old girl, police said.

She had been going door-to-door June 11, handing out fliers. When she came to Colberg's door, she handed him a flier with her mother's phone number, officials said. He's accused of sending her sexually explicit messages and asking her for a "massage," police said in a news release.

"It's a brazen thing to do, taking a number from a flier like that," said Lt. Ron Driscoll of the Murietta Police Department.

Colberg allegedly continued texting the minor over three days, sending sexually explicit images and asking for photos of her in return, authorities said.

Police opened an investigation when the girl's parents contacted them regarding the messages.

Colberg was arrested when he tried to meet with the girl, Driscoll said.

Colberg was booked into jail on suspicion of sending harmful material to a minor with the intent to seduce, communicating with a minor with the intent to commit a sex act, arranging a meeting with a minor with the intent to engage in lewd acts, and annoying or molesting a minor.

Driscoll said though this type of activity is uncommon, he warned residents to always be cautious.

It was not clear whether Colberg had an attorney.
