A church in Hermosa Beach is turning to the heavens for its power.
Our Lady of Guadalupe church and school is about to become the first church in the Los Angeles Archdiocese to go solar, according to a story in the Beach Reporter:
Out of the 302 parishes that make up the diocese, OLG is separating itself from the rest this week as it finishes the installation of 252 solar panels that will provide more than 90 percent of the electrical power that is used by the church and school.
The church expects the project to pay for itself within nine to 10 years, according to a news release on the church's website.
"I think Hermosa Beach is a community of people who appreciate our environment, nature, gifts of the sun and beaches. (We're) a parish in a city that protects our environment," Rev. Raymond Mallett told the Beach Reporter.
