Crews Battle Fire at Perris Pallet Yard

Dozens of firefighters battled a fire at a pallet yard early Friday morning that burned two acres of pallets in Perris.

The fire, which started at 2:49 a.m., quickly burned acres of pallets in a yard located at North Webster Avenue near West Ramona Expressway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. There were several explosions coming from propane tanks within the yard.

The fire was contained around 5:26 a.m. Friday morning, but officials planned to stay at the pallet yard for several hours to extinguish the fire, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

West Ramona Expressway is closed down in both directions as nearly 60 firefighters and 18 engines work to extinguish the flames. SoCal Edison was called to the scene for two burnt power poles.

No structures were threatened, but several cars, including big rig trucks, were burned.

Friday's fire was the fourth large pallet fire in the area in the last two weeks.

What caused the fire was not immediately clear, but officials said an arson team would be conducting an investigation.
