PCH Reopens After Sunday Mudslide

Clear of debris from a weekend mudslide, a short stretch of Pacific Coast Highway connecting Malibu and Ventura County reopened just before 9 a.m. on Monday morning, officials said.

The road was closed early Sunday morning when mud and rocks slid onto the road, forcing Caltrans to close it from Calleguas Creek Road to Mugu Rock, then later Deer Creek Road, in Ventura County, Caltrans officials said Sunday.

Though crews managed to clean the road up Sunday, PCH wasn't overnight out of caution, in case rain forecasted for the area triggered further mud- or rockslides, officials said.

"Obviously, we don’t want people driving through the mud and slush here," Caltrans spokesperson Patrick Chandler said Sunday.

No additional damage was reported by Monday morning, according to a tweet from Caltrans.
