Police Ask For Help in Jewelry Store Robbing in Glendale

The store was robbed in broad daylight on Monday afternoon

Police are asking the public for help finding suspects in the smash-and-grab robbery of a Glendale jewelry store.

Three people have already been detained for the robbery, which occurred at Glendale's Jewelry Mart on North Brand Boulevard, the Glendale News-Press reported. Three suspects were detained after they led police on a chase from Glendale to South Los Angeles.

The suspects burst into the store around 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon and used axes and hammers to break open cases of jewelry, while others scooped the jewels out of the broken containers into bags.

As seen on a surveillance video released by the Glendale police, there were at least six people involved, and the whole incident took less than 25 seconds.

No store employees would comment on the incident, and witnesses at the scene refused to give their names when talking to police because they said they feared retribution from the suspects.

Sergeant Tom Lorenz described the incident as "pure intimidation" and said that nobody was going to get in their way.

There have been no reports on how much jewelry was taken, and so far none of the stolen merchandise has been recovered.

Police are looking for multiple suspects, described as black, between 18 and 25 and driving a dark later-model Dodge Charger.
