Police Impersonator Who Pepper Sprayed Homeless Man in Victorville Arrested

A man who claimed to be a law enforcement officer when he pepper sprayed a homeless man outside a Victorville store over the weekend has been arrested, police said Monday.

On Sunday, 56-year-old Joseph Fekete approached the victim just before 7 p.m. at the WinCo Foods store on Roy Rodgers Drive and identified himself as a peace officer, though he was not wearing a uniform, the Victorville Police Department said.

When asked for identification, Fekete allegedly went back to his Chevrolet Corvette to grab pepper spray, then returned to spray the victim in the face and then fled, police said.

A deputy who recalled a similar incident pulled up Fekete’s record and used a photo line-up to identify him, police said.

Deputies arrested Fekete on suspicion of assault with a chemical. He could face additional charges if more victims are found.
