Valley Police Pursuit Ends in Shots Fired

A violent police pursuit ended in Van Nuys shortly before 10 p.m. on Wednesday, according to LAPD.

Two people were in the car at the time of the chase, which ended in a crash and shots being fired, said Officer Rosario Herrera with LAPD.

One person was taken into custody, Herrera said. Another was struck by gunfire and appeared to be taken from the vehicle then covered in a sheet, according to aerial footage of the scene.

The pursuit started with a traffic stop in North Hollywood, officials said. It prompted the LAPD to go on a modified tactical alert as it dispatched officers from around the San Fernando Valley to the crash site.

Radio communication suggested shots were fired during and at the end of the pursuit.

More than a dozen squad cars and throngs of uniformed officers lined the streets near the scene where a silver car into what appeared to be a concrete wall feet from the corner of Vanowen Street and Firmament Avenue (map).
