Days after an attack in San Diego left a woman badly hurt, multiple shark sightings in the Orange County area were reported Monday.
Nine sharks were spotted via helicopter off the Orange County coast about 100 feet from shore, according to the Orange County Fire Authority. The helicopter was flying over the shore in the San Clemente area south of Capo Beach and and north of Poche Beach.
The OC Fire Authority notified lifeguards of the sightings.
Two juvenile thresher sharks were also spotted about 50 yards off shore at Doheny State Beach. Lifeguards described them as measuring in at 5 feet long, according to Rich Haydon, Park Superintendent with California State Parks, Doheny State Beach.
California State Parks took the precaution of posting an advisory notice on the sand, but said the beach was not closed.
