Sketch Released of Man Who Tried to Rape Woman on Mother's Day

Sheriff's investigators released a sketch of a man who tried to rape a woman in an unincorporated San Bernardino street on Mother's Day.

The woman was walking to work early Sunday morning when a man began to follow her on Baseline Street near Golondrina Drive (map), the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said.

When she crossed Del Rosa Drive, the man began running after her and she tried to get away, but he grabbed her by her hair, deputies said. The man attempted to take off her shirt and unbutton her pants as the woman tried to fight him off.

After landing several punches on his face and poking his left eye, the woman broke free, ran off and called deputies about 4:30 a.m.

The woman described her attacker as African American with a light complexion, Latino or Pacific Islander. She said he was about 25 years old, 6 feet tall and weighing 240 pounds. He had dark hair, with a short beard and mustache. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, gray baseball cap and jean shorts.

Investigators say he faces charges of assault with intent to commit rape.

Anyone with information was asked to call sheriff's Central Station detectives at 909-387-3545.
