Pursuit Driver Crashes Into Pickup, Jumps Barbed-Wire Gate

The South LA chase ended with the passenger in custody, but the driver remained on the run

A pursuit took one surprising turn after another late Tuesday in South Los Angeles.

A driver in a stolen car T-boned a pickup after racing through a gas station, then climbed a fence topped with barbed wire as he ran from deputies.

The driver remained on the run early Wednesday. A passenger in the stolen car was in custody.

The chase began around 11:30 p.m. after the stolen vehicle report. Video showed the sedan driver slamming into the side of a pickup after the pursuit began near Figueroa Street and Manchester Avenue.

There were no reports of serious injuries.

When the chase ended at 89th Street near Broadway, the passenger was taken into custody, but the driver ran from the scene. He climbed a fence with sharp barbed wire on top as law enforcement officers chased after him.

The one-hour search ended without an arrest. The man was last seen wearing a light blue tank top and red track pants.
