Wrong-Way Driver Flees Diamond Bar Crash

The driver of a pickup truck heading the wrong way on the northbound lanes of the Orange (57) freeway in Diamond Bar, abandoned the vehicle after crashing it into the center divider, the California Highway Patrol said Friday.

The wrong-way driver was reported to the CHP at 2:39 a.m. The truck was heading southbound on the northbound side of the Orange (57) Freeway at Sunset Crossing Road, just north of the Pomona (60) Freeway, said Officer David Porter of the CHP.

CHP officers found the truck abandoned about 20 minutes later after it crashed into the center divider of the freeway, damaging 30 feet of guardrail, Porter said.

CHP officers were still searching for the driver as of 5 a.m., Porter said.

The truck was not reported stolen but the motorist might be charged with hit-and-run for fleeing the scene of the accident, Porter said.
