Post Malone Tops AMA Nominees, But Taylor Swift Could Steal Show

Singer-songwriter Ciara will host the awards show at the Microsoft Theater

Post Malone will carry a leading seven nominations into Sunday night's presentation of the American Music Awards, but Taylor Swift -- who will be named "Artist of the Decade" during the ceremony -- could set a record for most AMA wins of all time.

Swift is nominated for five awards, and if she wins just two, she will surpass Michael Jackson's record of 24 career American Music Award wins. Going into the show, Swift has 23 career wins, tying her with Alabama for second place on the list.

Post Malone and Swift are both nominated in the top category of artist of the year, along with Ariana Grande, Halsey and Drake. Post Malone is nominated for favorite male pop/rock artist -- with Drake and Khalid -- while Swift is up for favorite female pop/rock artist, with Grande and Billie Eilish.

Swift is also nominated for favorite pop/rock album for "Lover," as are Grande for "Thank U, Next" and Eilish for "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?"

Post Malone's collaboration with Swae Lee on "Sunflower" is up for collaboration of the year and favorite pop/rock song. He is also up for favorite rap/hip-hop artist, favorite rap/hip-hop album and rap/hip-hop song.

Eilish, age 17, made history last week by becoming the youngest artist to be nominated for the top Grammy prizes of album, record and song of the year and best new artist. She will compete at the American Music Awards for new artist of the year against Luke Combs, Lil Nas X, Lizzo and Ella Mai.

Singer-songwriter Ciara will host the awards show at the Microsoft Theater. Swift and Post Malone are both set to perform during the show, as are Eilish, Lizzo, Green Day, Camila Cabello, Shania Twain and Selena Gomez.

The American Music Awards winners are voted entirely by fans. Nominees are based on fan interactions, including streaming, album and digital song sales, radio airplay, social activity and touring. The awards honor work between Sept. 28, 2018, and Sept. 26, 2019.
