A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder for allegedly stabbing a homeless man in downtown Los Angeles last month.
Fred Scott Johnson is set to be arraigned Feb. 8 in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Johnson is charged in the Nov. 6 attack on Fernando Perez, who died two days later as a result of his injuries.
The murder charge includes an allegation that Johnson personally used a "sharp stabbing instrument" in the commission of the crime.
He has been behind bars since Saturday night after Los Angeles police homicide detectives got an anonymous tip that he was in Anaheim and worked with police there to locate and arrest him, authorities said.
Citing insufficient evidence, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office declined to file a case against Savannah McKinley, 28, who was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact. She was released from custody Wednesday evening, according to jail records.
