Man With Replica Sword Arrested in Santa Barbara County

The sword was determined to be a wooden replica.

Santa Barbara County authorities arrested a man after reports he brandished a samurai sword during an argument outside a McDonald's in the city of Goleta.

The Sheriff's Office says deputies responded around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday to reports of a man armed with a samurai sword who was involved in a verbal dispute with another man.

The suspect fled and an extensive search began, aided by police dogs, a helicopter and California Highway Patrol officers.

Residents of Old Town Goleta were sent an emergency notification to shelter in place, and Amtrak train service was temporarily halted because the search was near railroad tracks.

A suspect was arrested at gunpoint around 10:15 p.m. and jailed. The sword was determined to be a wooden replica.
