For those of you worried about your parents on Facebook, now here come your grandparents.
Those 50 and older are now marching their way across the social network's News Feed and is now the fastest growing segment, according to the Associated Press. Tammy Gordon, vice president of the AARP social media team said that the group's Facebook page grew from 80,000 to 1 million in 2012, largely because older people are the typically the last to partake in new technology.
It's true that those over 65 had the lowest rates of participation, according to the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project. In December 2012, only 32 percent of those 65 and older used social media sites, a rather large difference from the 83 percent of 18 to 29-year-olds using social media. That means the only real growth that can occur (at least in this country) is by attracting seniors.
