Police in Fontana, California, said they have arrested a man who stole the same Ferrari twice within 48 hours.
Officers said they first spotted Earnie Steven Hooks, 39, in the exotic car on Aug. 29 when he fled a DUI checkpoint in Fontana’s Village of Heritage neighborhood. The black Ferrari, which had been reported stolen, was later found abandoned. Police said Hooks was nowhere to be found.
In the early-morning hours of Aug. 30, Hooks broke into the impound where the black sports car had been taken and stole the Ferrari a second time, police said.
Four days later, detectives from the Fontana Police Department tracked Hooks down in Studio City, where he was allegedly driving the Ferrari in the area of Vineland Avenue and Ventura Boulevard. He was taken into custody.
Hooks faces charges of theft, unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle, receiving stolen property, burglary and warrants, Fontana police said.
