States Slow to Pass New Gun Laws After Newtown

Since the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, state-level restrictions on firearms have been slow in coming, mostly occurring in states that already had strict gun laws, according to NBC News. In some states, lawmakers have proposed and passed legislation that makes gun purchase easier. Lawmakers who try to form a bipartisan consensus for proper gun legislation are finding the process difficult. “I would hope that we would have a broadly supported bipartisan bill, but I think it’s more important that we have a strong bill that meets the need,” said Connecticut Democratic Sen. Majority Leader Martin Looney.
