An 87-year-old man fatally shot his wife and gravely injured himself in a failed murder-suicide Wednesday morning, police said.
The incident happened on the 12000 block of Wingo Street in Pacoima. Police were alerted when the couple’s adult son called 911 to report a shooting at the house, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police arrived heavily armed, unsure at first of what they were facing. Inside, they found the man gravely injured with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His wife was dead at the scene.
Neighbors said the whole scenario was shocking because the couple always seemed happy. However, LAPD detective Steve Castro said there had been calls to the home before.
“I don’t know the nature, but I think there’s been some calls here before,” he said. The motive for the shooting was still unknown, Castro said.
Police had originally said the man was 86 years old.
