Learn How to Be a Lifesaver by Fostering Pets in Need This Saturday at Petco

The "Be A Foster" event hopes to encourage the community to foster more animals.

You can learn how to be a lifesaver by fostering pets in need this Saturday at a participating Petco store.

MeoowzResQ partnered with the Petco Foundation to celebrate "Foster a Pet Month." They'll be highlighting two local foster volunteers in Southern California Saturday at their "Be A Foster" event at the Buena Park Petco location on Ball Road.

Orange County resident Kathy La Borde who has volunteered time and time again on "Adoption Saturday" at her local Petco is among those being recognized. La Borde, who is a foster volunteer for MeoowzResQ, has fostered more than 500 cats and kittens, with her main focus being on baby kittens and their mothers.

In May, Los Angeles Department of Animal Care & Control care centers took in around 4,547 cats altogether -- most of which were kittens, according to the foundation. For this reason, the event will not only highlight the great work that volunteers have done, but it will also encourage the community to help save animals' lives.

The foundation will also celebrate "First-Time Fosters" that may have decided to help make a difference in animals lives by becoming a foster pet parent. Shelby Median, who decided to make a lifesaving difference by fostering for MeoowzResQ, is among those being celebrated.

Both La Borde and Median will have their work recognized at the "Be A Foster" event where they both will be receiving BOBS from Skechers shoes. MeoowzResQ's first-time foster will receive a $200 Petco shopping spree to help them start their life saving journey.

MeoowzResQ volunteers and staff will be on site to demonstrate how to bottle feed kittens. They will also collect donated wish list items, and answer any questions that people may have about fostering any full grown cats or kittens.

The event runs Saturday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Buena Park Petco.
