The family of a 2- or 3-year-old girl found unaccompanied in Van Nuys Tuesday were located after a neighbor saw news reports and called authorities to say they recognized the child.
The toddler was found about 6:30 p.m. in the 7200 block of Kester Avenue, near Sherman Way, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The officers that found her said that the child was wandering near traffic with no shoes on, potentially unaccounted for hours.
Police had put out a call for public help in locating a parent or anyone else responsible for the child.
