Possibly Armed Resident Barricades Self in Huntington Beach

Police Monday surrounded an apartment at Alabama Street and Indianapolis Avenue in Huntington Beach where a possibly armed resident was holed up after a conflict with a roommate.

The roommate left the apartment and called police just before 1:30 p.m., Huntington Beach police Lt. Mitch O'Brien said. Residents of apartments in the vicinity were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

By late afternoon, officers still had not been able to make contact with the suspected gunman, O'Brien said.

The roommate who got out told police a gun had been fired into a wall, O'Brien said.

Investigators suspect another person may have been with the man in the apartment, but it's still unknown if anyone is still inside, according to the lieutenant.
