SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. -- The operator of a steamroller suffered a crushed leg Tuesday when he jumped off as it slipped down a slope, ending up in the patio area of a neighboring house in San Juan Capistrano, an official said.
The driver was working about 4:30 p.m. at a private residence in the 31100 block of Harmony Hall Court when the 8-ton piece of equipment lost its footing and began the slide toward a neighbor's house, said Orange County sheriff's Lt. Fred Furey.
The steamroller missed the house and came to rest in a patio area, where it caused no structural damage, Furey said.
The operator was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, Furey said.
