No. 1 star: Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks
So much for a sophomore jinx, at least so far. Kane scored a goal and provided two assists to continue his red-hot ways and lead Chicago to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Dallas Stars on Halloween. Kane has five goals and the same number of assists for 10 points in his last six games. Last year's Calder Trophy winner as the league's top rookie provided the primary assist on the game-winning goal. He had the second assist on Chicago's first goal to even the game early on. And he scored his sixth goal of the season at 18:50 of the first period to give the hosts their first lead of the game. Truth be told, Martin Havlat made the key play on the goal, driving one-on-one on the left side and deking Dallas' goalie Tobias Stephan and Stars' defense before dishing off on the backhand to an unmarked Kane, who had four shots and was a plus-2 during 20:12 of ice time.
No. 2 star: Corey Perry, Anaheim Ducks
The shifty forward scored a goal and added five assists to become the fifth player in franchise history to enjoy a five-point game, the second Duck (Ryan Getzlaf) to do it in as many games. Perry assisted on each of Anaheim's two first-period power-play goals. Once the Canucks sprinted to a 5-2 lead in the second, Perry was instrumental rallying the hosts with primary assists on two of the Ducks' late-period goals for a 5-5 tie after 40 minutes. Perry scored his third goal of the season at 19:03 as Anaheim had its goalie pulled for the extra-attacker, a goal that sent the game into overtime. Perry was even with five shots and three hits during 20:39 of ice time.
No. 3 star: Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks
Normally one wouldn't find a goalie who surrendered six goals during regulation in this category, but Luongo's work in overtime and especially in the shootout can't be ignored. After turning away both of Anaheim's shots during sudden death, the Canucks' captain really clamped down in the skills' portion to decide the affair. Luongo denied 12 of 13 Duck shooters, including each of the last 11 as Vancouver earned the two points on the road.
Honorable mention: Teemu Selanne scored two goals to tie Guy Lafleur at 20th place on the all-time goal-scoring list with 564 in his career. … Chicago's Dustin Byfuglien was solid all around, scoring his first goal, recording four shots and five hits. … The Blackhawks' penalty kill enjoyed a solid night. They went 5-for-5 against the Dallas power play, including not allowing a shot during 1:08 of a Stars' two-man advantage.
Dishonorable mention: Jean-Sebastien Giguere had an off night for the Ducks. The starting goalie was lifted after allowing his fourth goal on just 13 shots against Vancouver. The last one was particularly galling as Giguere bit on a Sami Salo fake from the point and was in no position once Salo instead passed to Mattias Ohlund. … Dallas surrendered at least five goals Friday night for the sixth time in its first 11 games this season. The Stars surrendered as many as five goals just eight times all last year.
