Police fatally shot one suspect and took another into custody Thursday at a Santa Ana car wash.

No officers were injured in the shooting, which occurred about 3 p.m. outside a parked sedan at the car wash near First Street and Cypress Avenue, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

The wounded suspect was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to reports from the scene. It was unclear if the suspects were armed or if any shots were fired at officers.

Police told reporters the silver sedan was being sought in connection with a carjacking and fatal shooting in Santa Ana on Aug. 14.

"I can confirm that the suspect that died at the hospital was the individual, the main suspect we were looking for in the 14th homicide," said Bertagna.

In that case, 34-year-old Hugo Sanchez Jr. of Santa Ana was putting gasoline in his pickup about 1:45 a.m. at a Shell gas station at 1501 E. Edinger Ave. when he was approached by two men.

A confrontation ensued and Sanchez was forced into his truck and made to drive north before he was shot and left for dead, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

The truck was found abandoned in the 1400 block of East Wilshire Avenue, about a block from the Shell station, with Sanchez's body in the street nearby, Bertagna said. The confrontation at the gas station was recorded on surveillance video, Bertagna said.
