Woman Killed, Girl Wounded in South Los Angeles Shooting

A woman was killed and a girl about 10 years old was wounded as she was crossing the street in a shooting in South Los Angeles Friday night.

The gunfire was reported about 6:20 p.m., according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Drake Madison.

The woman was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene and the girl was struck in her right leg, Madison said.

The victims were shot at 60th and Hoover streets, then the woman drove to the area of 59th Place and Hoover, where she was found by police. She was later identified as 36-year-old Felicia Page of Los Angeles.

The child was taken to a hospital in serious condition, according to Madison.

"The 10-year-old was actually crossing the street... as she was crossing the street, she was struck by gunfire, with a graze wound," LAPD Lt. Byron Roberts said.

Reports from the scene showed a canopy set up over a vehicle in the street near the driveway of a home in the 600 block of West 59th Place.

"The only way we're going to stop this is if we can share it and put the people responsible in custody," Lt. Roberts said.

The suspects were two men seen fleeing the location in white Suburban-type SUV, Madison said.
