East Hollywood ArtCycle

Artists cycle down Santa Monica Boulevard, for community and for fun.

Sorry, cars.

We know, you're very much associated with our city. Our bonds? They go way back.

But this is the weekend, when people take over the parking spots and cyclists take to the center lanes. We can only imagine, cars, that you'd like to join in all the fun, but, to be honest, this isn't about you.

Cool? Cool.

We make reference, of course, to Park(ing) Day LA, which is happening on Friday, Sept. 16 and East Hollywood ArtCycle, which gets pedaling on Saturday, Sept. 17. The former is all about taking over metered spaces and dolling them up with a bit of green. The latter is all about coasting to galleries in the Santa Monica Boulevard-Vermont nexus, chatting with neighbors, hearing some tunes, and being part of the scene.

Not the bad scene, right? The good scene. The good scene=people out, doing a free thing, and enjoying each other and a lively slice of LA.

It's free. It's family-nice. It's full of art. You're invited to show up with an old t-shirt to silkscreen, too. Oh, and your bike, of course. Can you add some plastic flowers or fingers puppets to the handlebars or something? Be the art, while you look at art. Bet you'll make some new friends, which, of course, is part of the point.

Hours are 2 to 10 p.m.

(Note Santa Monica will only be closed between Virgil and Vermont during those hours.)
