He's a knight, an Oscar-winner and now legendary actor Anthony Hopkins gets honored for his work with the homeless on Los Angeles' Skid Row.
Hopkins and his wife, Stella, will receive the "2010 Golden Heart Award" from the Midnight Mission.
The couple's work with the L.A. charity began 8 years ago. Anthony Hopkins, 72, gives regular acting classes to the homeless, organizes fundraisers, serves food and hands out toys to needy children, said Larry Adamson, President and Chief Executive of the Mission.
The actor's volunteer work was partly inspired by his own successful battle with alcoholism, according to WalesOnline.
"I could have been homeless. I could've been on skid row. But fortunately for me, I found a way out, and I've had a great, blessed life. And the people, this mission, gives back so much hope to people," Hopkins told the website.
"Anthony Hopkins and his loving wife, Stella, are examples of what is good and great in our world", said Adamson.
They are due to accept their "Golden Heart Award" on May 10 at the Beverly Hilton. Ironically, the glitzy ceremony will spotlight the harsh realities of those living miles away.
