NOBU EMPIRE—Last week Greenpeace had a peaceful protest against the NY branch of Nobu regarding Chef Matsuhisa's choice to serve bluefin tuna. Here in LA, thirty-one high-profile individuals have written letters to the Japanese mega chain in effort to convince them to remove the unsustainably farmed fish from the menu. Reps from Nobu have responded by saying "sushi made of bluefin tuna is a cultural institution in Japan and there is still an enormous demand for this delicacy at all our restaurants." [LAist]

TV LAND—Last night LA native Jeffrey Saad beat out nine other competitors (including LA-based Debbie Lee and Eddie Gilbert) in the first episode of the 5th season of The Next Food Network Star. Apparently betting has begun on who will take the cake. [LAT]
