The Counter Still “Full Steam Ahead”

Remember The Counter's grand expansion plans to lay build-your-own burger joints across the land? Well, it turns out that even a bad economy can't stop them now. We spoke with director of marketing Brian Berman to get an update on where some of the planned shops stand: They're excited to be opening in places like Hawaii and Australia, but the next restaurants to open locally will be in El Segundo (around December 15), Westlake Village (January 2009), and the one on Ventura has hit some permitting snafus so hopefully some time in the early part of 2009. A commenter hinted that The Counter was eyeing the former Radhika's space on Shopper's Lane near Lake Avenue, but Berman wouldn't confirm; he said there are several locations under consideration in the area but no paperwork has been signed yet. 2009 will be another banner year for the recession-proof burgers: They plan to open 25 to 30 worldwide.
