Celebrate Pride: Brushed up on your lyrics to "Hairspray" recently? Or do you need to comb through them again? No more hair puns: There's a Pride month sing-along just ahead, at The Grove, and it involves the joyful, songful film, a live appearance by Jennifer Keith and the Constellations, gratis popcorn, and a Pride collection from Dylan's Candy Bar. It all begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, and, you bet, the Original Farmers Market is a partner on the feel-good, warble-with-gusto good-timing. It's free, hooray, but you'll want to RSVP first, to let them know you'll be there.
Street Style Cinema: The Grove's devotion to alfresco film screenings continue with this month-long series of once-a-week fashion flicks. Nope, they're not documentaries but they do have true flair, in the most sartorial sense, and in a bunch of other senses, too. Up on Thursday, June 13? It's "Crazy Rich Asians," but there are more free flicks to come, with "Miss Congeniality" on June 20 and "The Devil Wears Prada" on June 27. Who What Wear is behind this dressy-delightful to-do, which rolls at the shopping destination's green space, The Park, at 8 p.m. (doors "open" at 6:30).
Hollywood Fringe: Lively sketches, moving performances, strange pop-ups, surreal dramas, outlandish comedies, and events that are mash-ups of all of those concepts or some of them? That's this Junetime treat, which takes place over a fortnight-plus around several Tinseltown venues. The "fringe" part of the name? It reveals that you're venturing into some offbeat adventures, performance-wise, and hooray for that. Venues include Lounge Theatre, The Complex Hollywood, and several more spots, so wade in now.
What to do, where to go and what to see
Judy Garland on TV in the 1960s: The iconic performer passed away a half century ago this month, and, to honor her legacy, the Hollywood Heritage Museum and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will present a line-up of some of her best television interviews. Ms. Garland was known for her memorable conversations, making her a favorite guest of interviewers and at-home viewers alike. This Evening at the Barn presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12. A ticket? It's fifteen dollars. Find yours here.
Surf's Up at the San Gabriel Mission: 'Tis the season of street parties, even those street parties that pop up on weeknights. And is there any truer sign of summer than reveling into the evening when it isn't even a Saturday? If this is your favorite pursuit, get to San Gabriel on Thursday, June 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. for "live music" plus a kids' zone, a beer and wine garden, and other convivialities. It's a sweet way to enjoy this beautiful district, and to savor these later sunshiny hours, before the solstice arrives.
