A tornado was reported Monday in the Northern California town of Merced, according to the National Weather Service.
A funnel cloud was reported around 11:25 a.m. and was gone 20 minutes later, the Merced Sun-Star reported.
"We have a very cold unstable air mass over the valley, so there's a potential for scattered showers, thunderstorms and more funnel clouds into the evening hours," NWS meteorologist Gary Sanger told the Merced Sun-Star.
Sanger told the newspaper that this was the first Central Valley tornado in the last 13 months.
