This article is sponsored by Mt. Rose. Located just 25 minutes from Reno, Mt Rose is one of Tahoe's most accessible ski resorts. To learn more, visit Skirose.com.

Perched at 8,260 feet, Mt. Rose boasts the highest base elevation of all the Lake Tahoe ski resorts. But that doesn't make this family-friendly ski area remote.

Located just 30 miles from Reno, guests can fly in and be skiing or snowboarding within an hour of landing. On top of that, Mt. Rose offers deep discounts on its lift tickets, with deals offered Monday, Tuesday and Thursday all season long.

Terrain
Experts will love that 50 percent of the 1,200 acres are advanced, with the 200 acre "Chutes" offering 1,500 vertical feet at pitches exceeding 50 degrees. But fret not faint of heart intermediate or beginner -- the rest of the mountain is devoted to groomed cruisers and gentle learn to ski areas, where one of the many friendly ski and snowboarder instructors from Mt. Rose will guide you through the basics and have you shredding in no time. There are ladies-only clinics and kids camps, too, making the Mt. Rose learn to ski and ride programs truly customizable to any family member's needs.

On-Mountain Dining
After a morning on the slopes, head down to the Slide Bowl base area for lunch. Winter Creek Lodge, a sleek steel and glass structure, offers spectacular views and equally impressive food. Choose between custom pizzas and burgers, or tuck into some homemade pasta, all of which can be enjoyed inside while gazing out the floor-to-ceiling windows or out on the sprawling terrace in the sun. There's even a bar incase you want to skip the afternoon schuss and get started on apres-ski a little early.

Where To Stay
With Reno only 25 minutes away by car, it's easy to stay in the city and still enjoy Mt. Rose. But, for a more authentic experience, we suggest The Cedar House Sports Hotel, located in nearby Truckee, California. This environmentally and doggy friendly hotel has 42 rooms and suites, all brimming with European charm, contemporary design and modern amenities. There's even an in-house touring company.
