The Pollinator Garden at the Natural History Museum alights, like a pretty bug on a bush, in Exposition Park.

Pollinator Garden Opening: It's like the Natural History Museum knew when the first weekend of spring would fall, and decided to launch a pretty plot devoted to annual wildflowers and California natives and those blossoms and buzzy things that have a mano-y-mano type of relationship. Or, in other words, how pollinators and pollinatees interact. Yep, the garden's debut also means that the mega, multi-year Nature Gardens project has reached its satisfying completion. Lookin' good, NHM. All the great things you've been up to are certainly *buzz* worthy. Nope, we're not even sorry we typed that. Not changing it.

$1 Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich: Something yummy between two pieces of a bready substance has a true-heart fan in just about every eater. Those same sandwichians also love a ridiculous deal. So prepare yourself: Little Tokyo gem The Sandwich Smith is selling its classic 'wich The Original for a buck over a few hours on Saturday, March 22. Reason? It's celebrating its first birthday. Nope, we're not even sorry we typed 'wich, either.

Patti LuPone at the Segerstrom: When we think Cabaret, and not the movie, we think of a more intimate theater setting, a sparkly songstress full of stories that bookend each well-sung ditty, and a certain amount of vintage Broadway-style oomph. Ms. LuPone brings it on all counts. If you've only ever seen her on the Tonys or film, take this chance to have the full live experience. She's in Costa Mesa for one night only, on Saturday, March 22.

Fish Fridays: Many a restaurant turns to the sea when Lent arrives, particularly on the final weekday. Fish feasts abound around town, and very much at both Water Grills -- the one in Santa Monica and the one downtown -- where classics like Frito Misto and Wild Marshall Island Big Eye Tuna get the swank supper treatment. Observing Fish Fridays and looking to go out for a treat? Make for a Water Grill ahead of Easter Week.

Bug Fair: 'Tis the season for bugs -- you read about the Pollinator Garden, yes? -- so this winged thing to-do at Kidspace Museum in Pasadena is right on target for the first Saturday of spring. That's March 22, and, indeed, there shall be plenty of insectiana to admire. And taste; we think we'll just put the words "Brownies made with crickets" right here and then quietly walk away. You know you want to try one.
