Flying Reindeer Seized at LAX

The decorations were found in a passenger's luggage

Two reindeer took a holiday detour at LAX.

Authorities said the figurines, found in the luggage of a passenger arriving from El Salvador, were made of a glass material that contained prohibited seeds and grass. U.S. Customs and Border Protection agriculture agents seized the decorations at Tom Bradley Terminal.

Seeds for propagation are not allowed in the United States unless the passenger has necessary certification. Agriculture officials said the grass blades showed possible disease symptoms.

Samples were sent to the USDA for identification.
