Southland Man Hit by the Same Train Twice in Two Weeks

Irvine police are investigating a man who has the unusual distinction of being hit by the same train twice in two weeks.

"That's a bit peculiar," Irvine Police Lt. John Hare told the LA Times.

The man, who has not been identified, was struck two weeks ago by a Metrolink train at the Laguna Niguel station and again on Tuesday morning at the Irvine Transportation Center.

In the Laguna Niguel incident, the man claimed he had fallen onto the tracks and was dragged 87 feet by a Metrolink train. His left hand was severed, the OC Register reported.

In Tuesday's Irvine incident, the man said he had fallen off the platform and had been hit by the train. Paramedics treated injuries to the mans left arm and right hand, the Register said.

The man was expected to undergo a mental evaluation at a local hospital. Police had spoken to the family and indicated they thought it was an accident and that the man did not say anything about suicide, the Register said.
